When we see people around us spending all their energies seeking after experiences and 'things' that do not satisfy and do not last, we may well feel a little sorry for them. Just one more holiday, a more expensive car, a bigger diamond ring or another adrenalin rush will never bring true fulfilment. They are looking for the meaning of life in all the wrong places.
Jesus came to give us lifereal life, 'abundant life' as he called it: an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life. What did he mean? What, according to our Creator, is the ultimate goal of human life which alone will satisfy? Jesus makes it plain in John 17:3 when he says to his Father "And this is the real and eternal life: that they know you, the one and only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent."
We have been made to know God and enjoy him forever! This alone will bring satisfaction to a spiritually thirsty world.
The strange thing is that Christians sometime behave like horses: even though led to the well source of abundant life they drink very little, preferring instead to nibble on weeds or just look at their reflection in the water.
Good News! For the next 11 weeks you are invited to drink deeply of the knowledge of God. Our new sermon series will be all about our wonderful God and his character. Our desire will be to get to know Him well and so find such depth in our relationship with him that every facet of our lives is infused with meaning and lasting fulfilment.
To help fill out the content of these weekly sermons we have produced a series of Bible Studies to be used in each of our Home Groups. Copies of these studies are printed in the yellow booklets at the rear of the church. You can also download these from the links on the website.
In your Home Groups, as you do the studies, you should not worry about whether you complete all of the questions or not. The goal is to get to know God well, not to answer all the questions. Instead, you might like to take the opportunity to complete the studies in your own personal devotional times (Quiet Times) throughout the rest of the week.
