St Marks Avalon Playgroup provides an informal weekly session where mums, dads, grand parents, caregivers, children and babies meet together in a relaxed environment and presents a great opportunity for either mum or dad (or both) to be involved in the Playgroup together with their child.
Making St Marks Avalon Playgroup a part of the weekly routine can be a bonus for parents and carers too. Discovering that everyone is going through the same joys, frustrations and sleepless nights as you can be a huge relief. Adults attending with their children are actively involved in each playgroup session. The friendship and support that new parents find at St Marks Avalon Playgroup is what makes the group so successful!
St Marks Avalon Playgroup is held at St Marks Church Keen Hall, a place that is safe for children and where groups of people can meet - both indoor and outdoor play spaces are suitable for small children. We have kitchen facilities, storage areas for toys and equipment, car parking, public transport nearby and children’s and adults toilets.
A ‘typical’ playgroup session includes time for setting up, children to play and adults to chat both indoors and outdoors, snacks , stories and music play as a group, general clean up and pack away.
Playgroup aged children are not ready for lots of rules and structure. They needs lots of uninterrupted time to make choices, experiment, explore and interact: plenty of free play.
St Marks Avalon Playgroup offers a variety of activities that cover social, physical, intellectual, creative and emotional development across a range of developmental ages. and these include: painting, building blocks, playdough, cutting, pasting and craft, ride-on or push toys, dress-ups and home corner. music and singing, imaginative play, etc.
St Marks Avalon Playgroup guidelines include: Adults are responsible for the safety and supervision of the children they bring. Every child has a right to safe and fair play. Playgroup is a ‘no hurting’ zone. Playgroup is a smoke free environment. All members are valued and respected. All families are welcome. Everyone helps with the workload and is involved in the planning and organising of playgroup. Members pay a small fee each term to cover weekly expenses such as:first aid kit, art or craft materials such as glue, paint and paper, snack time supplies like milk, tea and coffee
No child is too young for playgroup. All children from 0-5 years, including babies, love new experiences and benefit from developing sensory, social and communication skills through activities at playgroup.
Playgroup is the perfect way to offer young children opportunitites to 'learn through play', and it's great for children from birth onwards.
It’s a chance to get out of the house, catch up with other parents and at the same time let your child have fun, playing and interacting.. time to catch up with others, swap stories and share tips over a coffee.
Your child has other friends to play with and new play experiences.
There‘s usually painting, play dough and group singing– things which aren’t always easy to do at home.
It’s out of your house – a special outing for fun that doesn’t cost a lot of money – about the same as a cup of coffee!
You can make friends and get a support network that could last a lifetime.
Your children can play in a safe space, which gives you peace of mind.
Your child will love that the toys at playgroup are different to home
