Our 'Home Groups' are places of friendship, care, encouragement, and transformation: through our participation God changes us to become more like Jesus. This way of meeting together outside of 'church' is foundational to our life together (Acts 2:42-47; Col 3:15-16). Most groups meet on a weekly basis. We want to study God's word and try to apply it. We also want to prayerfully support one another through the challenges and trials of our lives. We believe that belonging and connecting at St Marks and St Davids through a home group wil be a truly life changing experience for many-- even you. |
Our Home Groups? |
The goals of our Home Groups are Christ-centred, receiving Him as LORD and living with Him as LORD. We come to know Christ as He comes to us in the gospel, offering us redemption and reconciliation with God. Thus, imparting right knowledge and understading is central to our Home Groups, we therefore aim to:
The scriptures teach us many things about Christ. As we learn these things, take them to heart, and put our trust in them, we grow in our personal knowledge of Christ. He reveals himself as He speaks through the Bible, and we get to know Him as a person, as we learn and embrace all that He is and all That He has done for us. Receiving Christ as LORD is never an academic or merelly intellectual exercise. It is a relationship of personall knowledge. It is a relationship of trust based on what we have learnt. Our Home Groups stimulate our members to receive Christ in this way and to continue strong and steadfast in the face of many alternatives. The knowledge of Christ as LORD and Saviour entails living with Christ as LORD. This means for us remaining faithful rejecting other lords and their religions and submitting to Christ in every sphere of life. Our Home Groups are committed to Gospel growth and Christian growth. The Gospel grows and bears fruits by transforming people towards maturity. The basic activities of our Home Groups are:
We learn how to read the Bible, how to apply the Bible in our lives; each member can think through personal applications in more detail; struggles in applying the Bible can be shared providing a sense of accountability where members help each other act upon decisions to change. In our Home Groups the opportunities for training and using people's gifts to ministry are multiplied and its often easier to see what needs to be done - bringing supper, contacting an absent member, leading in prayer, leading a discussion, organizing a gather together, supporting other ministries in church - Home Groups are the ideal context to help every member to live the gospel. In our church we have a network of Home Groups providing a way of holding the church together with a unified purpose and direction. Our Home group leaders channel information in two directions, they educate and enthuse the Home group about the vision, goals and programs of the church, as well as collecting feedback from the group members concerning their spiritual health and ideas for the program. One of the advantages of our Home Groups is their simplicity. Any Christian with a vision of studying the Bible and praying with other Christians is more than welcome! No matter if you are a New Christian or Christian your whole life, we will love to partner with you. It easy to join up. Just call our office on 9918 2829 for more information or send us an email |
